Mission Statement

  • Solicit instrument donations and raise funds to purchase instruments for the Denver Public School’s Music Resource Center Library.

  • Increase student participation in band and orchestra programs by providing musical instruments to students in need.

  • Create awareness of the current shortage of instruments in the Music Resource Center Library.  Increase the lending center’s inventory of musical instruments through fundraising activities

  • Develop a Band Together section of the Music Library with a user friendly system to track all donated instruments.  Maximize instrument circulation by facilitating communication between the Music Library and Denver Public School music faculty.
What is the Music Resource Center Library?

The Music Resource Center is part of the DPS ARTS Resource Center. The Center lends musical instruments and equipment to students who wish to participate in a DPS band or orchestra program.

How many schools and students does the Music Library Serve?

The Music Library serves the entire Denver Public School system with over 73,000 students in 73 elementary schools, 15 K-8 schools, 17 middle schools and 14 high schools.

Who can use the Music Library?

The library is open to any teacher or student in the Denver Public School System.  It is used primarily by music teachers who provide instruments to students who would like to participate in the band or music program, but who lack the resources to purchase or rent an instrument.

How many instruments are currently available in the library?

There are no instruments currently available.  There is a waitlist of over 70 instruments in addition to requests for instruments that are phoned into the center on a daily basis.

How will Band Together Work with the Music Library?

Band Together will donate used and new instruments, mouthpieces and cases to the Music Library.  The Band Together instruments will be loaned on a renewable semester basis and tracked to insure maximum circulation throughout the district.   Band together will help publicize the Music Library to the community and solicit funds to support the center.

What type of instrument donations does the Center accept?

All band and orchestra instruments are accepted, though the highest demand is for beginning band instruments including saxophones, trumpets, flutes, clarinets, and trombones.  Mouthpieces and music cases are also in demand.

Do the instruments have to be in working order?

It is preferable but not necessary that instruments be in working order.

Why should I donate to the Music Library instead of donating directly to a school?

When an instrument is donated directly to a school, it can only be used by students enrolled in that school.  If there is no demand for that instrument, it will simply sit, unused in its case.  Instruments donated to the Music Library can be used by any student in the district, thus insuring that instruments are provided to students who need them.  The ability to circulate instruments and make them available to all DPS students instead of just students at one school maximizes the use and efficiency of the lending program.
